Stone Island

Stone Island is just south of Mazatlan.  It is a rural community covered with huge coconut groves  Much of the available beach is covered with little bars and restaurants.  Ice cold Pacifico bottles are 15 pesos which is 50% higher than OP's.  But then the OP is next to the naval base and these places are on the beach looking at the ocean.  Ambience costs extra.  The crowds are sparse and the beaches incline gradually into waters that are protected from the really big breakers by the breakwaters of the marina entrance.  The small crowds and gentle waves make this spot expecially good if you have small children.  There are numerous activities, including volleyball and banana boat rides.  But my favorite thing to do is ride the horses.  If you have never ridden a horse down a beach you have not really lived yet.
